The U.S. Consulate General In Shanghai Hosted Its First Official U.S. Independence Day Celebration In Nanjing On July 8
On July 8, the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai hosted its first official U.S. Independence Day celebration in Nanjing since the founding of the People's Republic of China. Special guests included Jiangsu Vice Governor Zhang Weiguo and Nanjing Vice Mayor Zhao Xiaojiang, as well as representatives from the Provincial People's Congress and People's Political Consultative Conference. In her spoken remarks, Shanghai Consul General Beatrice Camp noted Nanjing’s prominent place in the history of U.S.-China relations and expressed her continued support for the many cultural and exchange programs between Jiangsu Province and the United States. The celebration also featured a video message from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stressing the need for countries to work together to tackle global problems and achieve shared goals.
